This is how the story goes…

On December 23, 2010 I get a phone call from my friend Maria asking if I wanted to have dinner with a bunch of our friends plus 3 of her other friends, Esther, Nadine, and Jose. I gladly accept. The dinner was at JD’s in Edgewater. I drove there and as soon as I pulled up I saw everyone in the parking lot. I saw a guy I didn’t know with them so I figured it was Jose. I parked my car and I said my hello’s to everyone. When I got introduced to Esther, Nadine, and Jose I thought he was one of those girl’s boyfriend. He sat all the way at the other end of the table and didn’t really say one word to me. My friends were making fun of him the whole night cracking jokes about how he’s a ladies’ man. I soon found out that he did indeed have a girlfriend but she was in Pennsylvania where he was from. 

Dinner was over and we decided to go to a karaoke spot in Edgewater. We had an amazing time being silly singing and dancing. No one wanted to go home except Esther so they decided to buy a couple of drinks and go to Jason’s house. On the way to the only liquor store that was open after 10pm my best friend Jerrick and I were talking in the car and I got the whole story on Jose. Jose was the guy I heard all about during my high school days from my Titas because he was one of Jerrick’s best friends at that time. I finally got to put a face on the guy that all the stories were about. The one thing that stood out to me was the fact that Jerrick told me that Jose was very loyal and would never cheat on his girlfriend. So after that I didn’t really expect much from him. But since all girls are grimy, myself included.. in the back of my mind I told myself I could have him if I wanted. At Jason’s house everyone was drinking except for myself because I needed to drive home. We found a silly iPhone app of truth or dare and everyone played it. To my surprise, Jose was not that shy and he was fully engaged in the game. We had our first kiss with ketchup (gross I know, Jose spit it out and almost threw up after the kiss). At the end of the night as everyone was leaving Jason’s basement, Jose guided me through the dark and held both my hands. We were talking about Pennsylvania and he told me to call him if I was ever around. I told him I didn’t have his number so he handed me his iPhone and he told me to put my number in it. LOL. We said our goodbyes and even before I got home I got a text from him. We texted the whole night/morning until I fell asleep. 

We spoke everyday through text, phone, and webcam. He even asked me to go out to Guitar Bar a couple of days later. Long story short, he broke up with his girlfriend, we started going on more dates, we became official a month later and now less than a year later we are an amazing family with a beautiful son. Life’s crazy and unexpected.
